5 ways to gain positive reviews online

Laura Morris - 23 September 2019

There are a number of factors that contribute to a customer’s final decision on whether or not to purchase a product or service from a business, and reviews and recommendations online have become a prominent part of this decision-making process.

So, how do you guarantee that your customers are happy and satisfied with your business? And how do you go about getting your customers to leave you those all-important positive reviews?

It is easier than ever for your customers to leave you a review and for you to promote that review to help drive further business and new customers. Follow these key tips designed to help your business secure review after review after review…

1.        Aim for 100% customer satisfaction

The best place to start in order to increase the number of positive reviews you are receiving is to simply provide your customers with 100% customer satisfaction.

This will mean that customers are likely to be more willing to leave a positive review as they will want to share their positive experiences.

2.      Create opportunities for customers to leave reviews

There are a number of trusted platforms for reviews that you should implement to make it as easy as possible for customers to leave reviews.

Some great sources for leaving reviews and recommendations include:

  • Google My Business
  • Facebook
  • Yelp
  • Trustpilot
  • TripAdvisor

In particular, we recommend taking advantage of Google My Business reviews. Reviews on your business profile are easily accessible to customers as they can be viewed without the need to click through. Additionally, having positive reviews on Google helps to attract new customers and drive more business. It also plays a part in Google’s algorithm for organic search, so don’t allow your brand to fall victim to a string of negative reviews on your business listing.

Make sure that your customers are able to easily leave reviews when browsing your website too by having clear links on your site that direct customers to your Facebook, Yelp, Trustpilot or TripAdvisor pages to make their comments, with the fewest clicks required.

3.      Ask for feedback in the right place, at the right time

Directly asking for a review means that you’re probably more likely to get one, and there are a number of ways you can approach a customer to leave a review, such as via email or face-to-face during the purchase process.

It’s also important to consider the time you ask a customer for a review as this can influence your success rate of obtaining their feedback and comments.

If a customer has just bought a product from you, you should try and obtain a review once they have had the chance to use and analyse their satisfaction with the product. In cases such as this, it may be best to wait for a couple of weeks before asking for their review.

However, if a customer has just used one of your services or is reordering the same product, it may be better to strike while the iron is hot and to ask them more promptly for a review.

4.      Provide incentives

Depending on your type of business and whether or not it would be appropriate, offer your customers an incentive for leaving a review, such as a voucher or a discount on their next order.

Even if it’s just at the beginning, providing incentives is an effective way to gather those first few valuable reviews.

5.      Be proud of positive reviews

A positive review is great for your business and your reputation; they demonstrate your credibility and play an important part in ensuring customers return to your business, as well as in attracting new customers.

Not only is it important to receive reviews online, it’s also crucial that these reviews are easily accessible for customers. Post reviews directly and clearly on your website and include them in your email and social media content too.

Reviews are a huge part of building your brand online and instilling trust in your customers, with particular importance for the healthcare and dental industries. Creating opportunities for customers to leave reviews and simply just asking for reviews when the time is right is sure to help improve your reputation and, in turn, your sales and customer base should grow. As reviews are crucial in a customer’s decision-making process, be sure to promote your positive reviews and get your business out there.
