Training
I always liked sport, business studies and enjoyed creative things (such as media studies, and art), so I picked a course at UWIC (now Cardiff Metropolitan) called Sports Management. This was perfect for me, as it was a mixture of different modules. In my 2nd year, we were given the task of setting up an event, promoting it and making a profit. We organised a Christmas party at the Student Union, and it was a great success. I thoroughly enjoyed the build-up to the event, spreading the word, creating posters, coming up with ideas to get people to attend – little did I know that you could make a career out of this, and it was called ‘marketing’! In 2017 I took the opportunity of completing an IDM certificate in Direct and Digital Marketing, and since joining Wagada I have furthered my knowledge of SEO tactics. Wagada offers lots of internal training, as well as opportunities to learn via external training.
I love my job because…
The people, clients, and the work are so varied, but you can focus on a specialism. We are also growing and it’s exciting. Cheryl and Nick ensure everything we do matches our culture and team ethos. We really try to be an extension of the client’s team, not just an agency they work with. Everyone supports each other, and we work together on achieving our clients’ goals. I’ve been a massive fan of digital marketing since starting out in my career in 2013. Yes, it’s changed since then, but that’s what I love the most – it’s constantly changing so you are always learning. It’s a great platform where I can express my creativity, but have tangible data to review and improve. No two days are the same in digital marketing, especially for an agency. Cheryl and Nick have created an amazing work culture, and open space to work, and it honestly feels like everyone’s opinion counts, which is so important. We have the best team and an amazing range of clients.
The future
I can honestly say I feel like my future is Wagada, and we are on such an exciting journey. Wherever Wagada will be in 1-10 years, I know that I will be on that journey with them, doing more of what I love. I am confident that Wagada will always ensure the role works for me personally too, as I move through my career journey. Digital marketing is such a rewarding career. I get to be part of a fun team, both agency and client-side – all working towards the same goals.
